Microsoft Telemetry Compatibility is a new process that has been started by Microsoft. It’s a service that collects technical data of different devices and software and send the data collected to Microsoft so that they can make the experience better by changing interactions of the devices with Windows with upcoming updates.

However, for people with older processors and HDDs with slower read/write speed, it seems to be taking over 50% disk and CPU usage. If you’re one of them, don’t worry! Below are two easy fixes to disable Microsoft Telemetry Compatibility service!

Method 1: Disabling the service using the Group Policy Editor:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R key and the Run window will pop up. In the “Open” field, type “gpedit.msc” without the apostrophes. Press the Enter key or the OK button.

Step 2: The Group Policy Editor window will pop up. In the left column of the window, find the “Computer Configuration” category and expand it using the arrow beside it. Find the “Administrative Templates” category in the expanded category, then the “Windows Components”, and finally the “Data Collection and Preview Builds” folder.

Step 3:When you click the “Data Collection Preview Builds” folder, the right column will change and will show a variety of different services. In the list, find the “Allow Telemetry” process and double-click it.

Step 4: When you double-click the process, a new window will pop up. On the top-left corner of the window beside the “Comment” box are three options: Not Configured, Enabled and Disabled. Select the “Disabled”option and then click the “OK” box to confirm the changes.

Step 5:Check the Disk and CPU usage again in the task manager and see if it solved the problem. If it didn’t, then try out the other fix mentioned below.

Method 2: Disabling the service using the Registry Editor:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R key and the Run window will pop up. In the “Open” field, type “regedit” without the apostrophes. Press the Enter key or the OK button.

Step 2: The Registry Editor window will pop up. In the left column of the window, find the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” category and expand it using the arrow beside it. Find the “SOFTWARE” category in the expanded category, then the “Policies”, then the “Microsoft”, then the “Windows”, and finally the “Data Collection” folder.

Step 3:Right-click the “Data Collection Preview Builds” folder and select the “New > DWORD (32-bit) Value”.

Step 4:A new window will pop up. On the top of the window, fill the “Value Name” box with “Allow Telemetry”. In the “Value Data” box, write “0”. Click the “OK” box to confirm the changes.

Step5: Check the Disk and CPU usage again in the task manager and see if it solved the problem. Hope this tutorial helped you!
